Job Scam mimicking legit companies

SCAM Alert: Fake Job Scams Using Our Company Name

We at Edelosoft are deeply disappointed to inform our community that scammers have been targeting unsuspecting job seekers by impersonating our company. These scammers have created fake websites with domain names similar to ours, such as Edelosoftdesign.life, Edelosoft-data.life and Edelosoftsolution.life, all ending with the .life extension and now not limited to only this extension. We’ve seen others in the wild. These websites contain login pages designed to trick job seekers into providing personal information.

How the Scam Works

The scam typically follows these steps:

  1. Unsolicited Job Offer: Job seekers are contacted through messaging apps like Telegram or WhatsApp and offered a seemingly lucrative position at our company. These offers often promise high returns for minimal effort.
  2. Fake Website: If a job seeker expresses interest, they’re directed to a fake website that closely resembles our legitimate website but with a different domain name (ending in .life). These websites will likely have a login page where the scammer attempts to collect personal information. See screenshots below
  3. Fake Tasks and Investment Traps: The scam may involve seemingly simple tasks at first, with small commissions offered to build trust. However, as the job seeker progresses, the tasks might become more complex, and the scammers will introduce the need to invest their own money for “upgrades” or to “unlock” higher earning potential.
  4. The Money Trap: Once the job seeker invests money, they will encounter problems withdrawing their earnings, or the website might show a negative balance. The scammers will then pressure them to pay additional fees to resolve the issue, creating a never-ending cycle of financial demands.
  5. Disappearance: Ultimately, the scammers may disappear entirely, leaving the victim with financial losses and stolen information.

We Want to Help:

We take these impersonations and scams very seriously. We have not, and will never, ask potential employees for any upfront financial investments or personal information through messaging apps. If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a job offer claiming to be from Edelosoft, do not provide any personal information or click on any links in suspicious emails or messages.

Here’s how to protect yourself:

  • Be wary of unsolicited job offers: If a job offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Always verify the company’s website: Check the official URL of Edelosoft. Contact us via the contact page or social media pages if you are unsure.
  • Never share personal information through messaging apps: We will never ask for sensitive information through unofficial channels.
  • Do not invest money upfront: A legitimate company will never require upfront investments for employment.
  • Report suspicious activity: If you encounter a scam using our company name, please report it to us immediately and consider filing a report with the authorities especially if you have been scammed.

Scammers may try to change the look and feel of these functionalities/apps as they will try to re-use the same app code base but apply a different look to mislead you into thinking it’s not the same app as above. Often, they will have configuration on the backend to upload logos stolen from other companies and proceed with a new company to scam after a company’s “ease-of-scamming” has been reduced to zero.

Alternate variations of the same scam. These are versions before they skin it with the target companies details.

Here are images of jobseekers sharing with us their interaction with the scammers:

Here are other companies we found that they are impersonating, they’ve cloned the same app and changed the logos and color schemes to match the companies they are impersonating:

It seems a company called Qlik is being impersonated as well as EKM (an ecommerce platform in the UK). Someone posted a scam alert of the Qlik scam here.

These are the current phone numbers and usernames they are using for Telegram and Whatsapp:
Whatsapp:
+65 9775 3668
+65 8679 0776
+65 9868 7651 (reported Aug. 4th, 2024)
Telegram:

@OfficialEdeloSoft6599

If you encounter any of these phone numbers or any variation of them, block them and make sure to hit the “report as scam/junk” on these numbers in whatever platform you are using. The more people who do this, the easier it will be for the platforms to ban their number. The more evidence there is where stories match, the easier it is to verify the truth.

Once banned, that number can no longer contact or engage other victims. If you are a victim, you can do your part in preventing this scam by reporting, reporting, reporting. Report everything and anywhere you can. Share any screenshots and numbers you have with us and we will post them here.

We are committed to protecting our community and ensuring a safe job search experience. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

If you are a victim of this scam please make a police report here.
Or post your story on scam alert sg here.

There’s no shame being scammed as it happens to the best of us. The only shame is if you do nothing, and let the next person become a new victim. Think of this merely as something you did to expose this scam and keeping the rest of us safe!

Let’s stop these scammers together.

Sincerely,

The Edelosoft Team
